World Cup Qualifier Preview

England have only lost to Poland on one previous occasion in 19 meetings. That defeat came back in World Cup qualification in 1973. England have won three of the previous four against Poland. The most recent win that the Three Lions picked up was a 2-0 success in qualification for the 2014 World Cup. Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard scored the goals on that occasion.

England vs Poland Head To Head

England have already taken firm control of Group I after two rounds of fixtures. The Three Lions have won both previous games, and have scored a combined total of seven goals. They are yet to concede a goal, which isn’t massive surprising given that their defence hasn’t been tested in fixtures against San Marino and Albania. England’s most recent win came at the weekend, as they beat Albania 2-0 away from home. It was a professional display by Gareth Southgate’s side, as they dominated the possession, and didn’t allow Albania to have a single shot on target. Harry Kane opened the scoring late in the first-half with an excellent header after a great cross from Luke Shaw. Mason Mount rounded off the win in the second half by calmly finishing a swift move.

England vs Poland Prediction

England will be aware that this is likely their hardest game in qualifying. The challenge is slightly easier given that Lewandowski will be missing through injury, and for that reason England should pick up a straightforward three points.
England will be looking to take a huge early step towards the Qatar World Cup on Wednesday evening, as they come up against the main rivals in Group I.
Poland have already given themselves a huge challenge to reach the World Cup, as they have picked up just four points from a possible nine. Defeat at Wembley would see England move five points clear at the top of the group, which would effectively end their hopes of topping the group. Poland picked up their first win in qualification last time out against Andorra, with Robert Lewandowski scoring twice in the win. However, their chances at Wembley have been negatively impacted after it was revealed that the Bayern Munich striker will not be fit enough to play in London after picking up a knee injury. Karol Swiderski scored the only other goal in the 3-0 success against Andorra on Sunday.
