One of the biggest international matches on the South American schedule takes place in World Cup qualification in the early hours of Wednesday morning, as Brazil and Argentina lock horns. Both nations will be looking for a response after negative results in their previous match.
More embarrassment could be heading Brazil’s way on Tuesday evening, as they look to avoid losing three successive World Cup qualifiers. However, they lack an identity at present, and Argentina look extremely good value to bounce back in Rio following their shock defeat over the weekend at the hands of Uruguay.

World Cup Qualifier Preview

That poor form to start the campaign already sees them sit five points off Argentina at the top of the standings, and they could drop out of the top seven places if they suffer another defeat this week. Brazil have lost each of their previous two internationals, and they will be hopeful that reports of Carlo Ancelotti’s potential arrival could spark a response on Tuesday night. Their most recent defeat was suffered away from home, as they were beaten 2-1 by Colombia.
However, such is the strong start that they have made to qualifying that they still boast a two-point advantage at the top of the standings. Things didn’t go to plan in that defeat against Uruguay, but Lautaro Martinez could be recalled for the match away from home against Brazil this week. 

 
Brazil have gone three matches without a victory against Argentina, which includes defeats in two of those clashes. The only exception was a 0-0 draw in the most recent qualifier between the nations in 2021.
